JOTECS โ the International Journal of Telecommunications, Electronics and Computer Science โ is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published twice a year by the Department of Telecommunication Engineering at Politeknik Negeri Padang, Indonesia. We welcome original research articles, review papers, and short communications from anywhere in the world. Our editorial scope is wide but our review standard is high.
Aims & scope
JOTECS publishes original work in three overlapping fields:
- Telecommunications โ wireless systems (5G/6G, Wi-Fi, LoRa, satellite), network protocols, signal processing, antenna and RF design, optical communications, network security.
- Electronics โ analog and digital circuit design, embedded systems, FPGA and ASIC implementation, microstrip and PCB design, sensors and instrumentation, power electronics.
- Computer Science โ applied algorithms, IoT and edge computing, computer networks, machine learning for signal/image processing, software-defined radio, computer architecture.
We are particularly interested in work that crosses these boundaries โ an antenna designed for a specific 5G protocol, an FPGA implementation of a signal-processing algorithm, an IoT system with both edge ML and novel sensing hardware.
Publication frequency
JOTECS publishes two issues per year โ January and July. Articles are released online as soon as they pass final review (continuous publication within an issue window). Volume 1 was launched in 2024; Volume 2 began in January 2026.
Open access & license
Every article in JOTECS is released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This means:
- Anyone may read, download, and redistribute the article โ free of charge.
- Anyone may reuse the article, including in commercial products and derivative works, provided they give appropriate credit and release derivatives under the same license.
- Authors retain copyright to their work. The license applies to the published version.
There are no article processing charges (APCs) and no submission fees. The journal is funded by Politeknik Negeri Padang as part of its institutional research mandate.
Publication ethics
JOTECS follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on all matters relating to authorship, peer review, conflicts of interest, data integrity, and corrections. Specifically:
- Originality โ submitted manuscripts must be the authors' own original work and must not be under consideration elsewhere.
- Plagiarism โ all submissions are screened with iThenticate/Turnitin. Manuscripts with significant overlap (>25% excluding references) are returned without review.
- Authorship โ all listed authors must have made substantial contributions to conception, execution, or analysis, and must approve the final version.
- Conflicts of interest โ authors, reviewers, and editors disclose any financial or personal relationships that could bias the work.
- Corrections & retractions โ published corrections and retractions are linked to the original article and indexed.
Peer review process
JOTECS uses a double-blind peer review process. Manuscripts are anonymised before being sent to at least two independent reviewers. Reviewers have four weeks to return their assessment. The editor-in-chief makes the final decision based on reviewer recommendations, with possible outcomes: accept, minor revision, major revision, reject. Revised manuscripts are sent back to the original reviewers where possible.
Archiving & indexing
Every article receives a DOI. Full-text PDFs are deposited in the institutional repository at Politeknik Negeri Padang and are mirrored via the PKP Preservation Network (PN). The journal is registered for indexing in DOAJ, Google Scholar, and several regional databases; full indexing status is listed on the submissions page.
