This page explains what information JOTECS collects when you use jotecs.org, why we collect it, and what we don't do with it. The short version: we collect almost nothing, we set no tracking cookies, and we don't sell or share anything with third parties.
1. Information we collect
JOTECS collects information only when you actively provide it. Specifically:
- Manuscript submissions — when you submit a paper through the submission form, we receive your name, email, affiliation, co-authors, paper title, abstract, keywords, and any notes you include. This information goes to the editorial office and is used only for the review and publication process.
- General inquiries — when you send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, email, subject, and message.
- Server logs — like every website, our hosting server logs each request: the URL requested, your IP address, user-agent string, referrer, and response status. These logs are kept for standard operational purposes (debugging, abuse prevention) and are not used for tracking or profiling.
2. Information we do not collect
JOTECS does not use Google Analytics, Matomo, Plausible, or any other third-party analytics service. We do not run any advertising networks on this site. We do not embed third-party tracking pixels. We do not collect device fingerprints, location data, or behavioural profiles.
3. Cookies
JOTECS does not set any cookies. Read the full cookies policy.
4. Third-party services
The site uses two third-party services that may log requests independently of us:
- Google Fonts — the site loads three open-source web fonts (Inter Tight, Spectral, JetBrains Mono) from fonts.googleapis.com. Google logs each font request. No personally identifying information is sent by our code; the request includes your IP and user-agent like any browser request to any domain.
- Formspree — when you submit the submission or contact form, your form data is delivered to Formspree and forwarded to the editorial office. Formspree's privacy policy applies to that data during transit.
5. How we use the information
Information you provide through the submission or contact form is used only for its stated purpose: to receive your manuscript, reply to your inquiry, or process a review request. We do not add you to marketing mailing lists. We do not sell or share your information with any third party.
6. Data retention
Manuscript submissions are retained in the editorial office's records for the duration of the review and publication process and for an archival period thereafter consistent with academic publishing norms. General inquiries are retained for as long as needed to respond and for a short follow-up window.
Server logs are rotated on a standard schedule by our hosting provider. We do not retain logs long-term.
7. Your rights
You have the right to request a copy of any personal information we hold about you, to ask for corrections, and to request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, email editor@jotecs.org with the subject line "Privacy request." We respond within 30 days.
8. Open access and licensing
Articles published in JOTECS are released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. Published articles — once accepted and released — are intentionally public. The personal information of authors (name, affiliation) is published as part of the article by design. Authors who wish to remain anonymous during the review process are accommodated through our double-blind peer review workflow.
9. Contact
Questions about this privacy policy should be sent to editor@jotecs.org or by post to the editorial office address listed on the contact page.
